Our Presenter:
I am a born and bred Minnesotan and actually live next door to the house I grew up in. My wife
Valerie and I have been married for over 31 years and I love her more now than ever. Our three
daughters Rachel, Kelly, and Megan are all married to wonderful men and I am blessed with 3
Growing up I cut lawns, shoveled driveways, delivered newspapers, and helped out with chores
at home.
This taught me the basics of hard work, perseverance, and the satisfaction of a job well done.
I finished my college and graduate education at the University of Minnesota and began my
dental practice in 1985.
During my 19 years of practice I followed a path of high integrity and the philosophy of putting
the client’s interests ahead of my own. Basically, doing the right thing.
I also learned how to run a business, read a P & L and understand a balance sheet.
In 2004, because of carpel tunnel syndrome, I had to sell my dental practice and walk away
from a life of education and purpose I worked so hard to build.
When I started practice in 1985 I purchased disability policies so in the event I became sick or
hurt and couldn’t practice dentistry I’d be ok.
At claim time two of the three policies I owned denied my claim even though my physician
stated I could not practice dentistry anymore.
This event affected me so strongly that I began a new career. I became passionate about
helping my fellow health care practitioners wade through the 30 – 40 pages of a disability policy
and alert them to the pitfalls of a poorly written contract.
Wow there are a lot of poor contracts out there!!!
At the same time I had sold my practice and there was ol’ Uncle Sam with his hand out. The
government wanted 28% of the sale proceeds.
My thought was, “What the heck did they ever do to help me build it, maintain it, and why do
they think they should get a big chunk of it”?
The answer… Tax Law.
Right then and there I had my news life’s purpose.
To stand up for people’s rights and to educate them so that they can keep more of what is
legally theirs and to put a stake in the ground for them and say, “Not On My Watch”!!!
Over the past 15+ years of education and study in the financial services industry I run my
practice with these beliefs as my soul purpose.
I believe the IRS tries really hard to take the fun out of being successful.
I believe you should be in control of your wealth, not the government or financial institutions. I
believe you should pay your income taxes once, and get your wealth off the radar screen of the
IRS forever. I believe you can keep your current lifestyle in retirement, with half the money Wall
Street says you’ll need. Believe me; it’s not what you earn . . . it’s what you keep.
I believe there is more opportunity to serve my clients by helping them avoid the losses than by
picking the winners.
